But I’ll have to start again as the little triangles are very baggy and the tension is too loose

They all look like knit rows to me in the pattern so not sure how to achieve the stocking stitch? Aaaagh! Please can you make sense of it for me? Many thanks in great anticipation. Was so looking forward to this square and now stumbled at the first hurdle!

Comment on Martin Storey KAL square 1 – Moss Heart by Sarah http://nottinghamknitter.co.uk/blog/2016/01/31/martin-storey-kal-square-1-moss-heart/#comment-625 Sat, 26 Nov 2016 13:47:43 +0000 http://nottinghamknitter.co.uk/blog/?p=2158#comment-625 Hi Karen, I’m so glad that my post was helpful! Working from charts can be a bit tricky because the chart shows you what the result needs to look like on the right side (or the front) of the knitting, but of course you actually work every other row on the wrong side (or the back) of the knitting when you are making a flat piece like this. So if you need a knit stitch on the front but you’re working the a row on the back you actually have to purl. It’s counter-intuitive until you get used to it!

Just remember that the back of a knit stitch is a purl stitch, and the back of a purl stitch is a knit stitch 🙂

Why couldn’t it simply just say knit 5 rows garter stitch as you have done?! I was beginning to feel really fed up after many attempts, but you saved the day. Karen x

It’ looks great and is a very easy knit. I love these calm colours…I’m doing this colour way too!

It’s so nice to know a technique that looks difficult but is actually very easy.

Can’t wait to see some photos of the squares in Spice 😊
